About the role


An excellent career opportunity exists within our farming division working across our grower farms and or our breeder farms. The Farm Technical Officer role works closely with the Farming Manager and Breeder and Hatchery Division Manager, as well as individual Company Farm Managers and Independent Farmers, to provide technical and management support on all matters relevant to duck production including animal welfare, biosecurity and food safety.

This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week as well as some weekends and public holidays when needed. We are a small and friendly team looking for a reliable people who enjoy working outdoors and with animals. Experience is preferred however for the right person we will provide full training. Enthusiasm for farm and animal work is the essential criteria.

 

Duties Include:

  • Visit company and independently operated farms on a regular basis to inspect farms, ducks, growing conditions, and production facilities.
  • Liaise with company personnel and service providers associated with duck production activities.
  • Work on farms and provide farm relief duties as required.
  • Audit farms, collect data, collect samples, compile reports, file information and conduct trials as required.
  • the general maintenance of the farm and welfare of our ducks.
  • Assist Division Managers with operational duties.

 

Skills & Experience Required

  • Agriculture/animal science tertiary qualification and/or 3 years' experience working with livestock.
  • Understanding of livestock production systems and a desire to work with intensive livestock.
  • Communicate effectively with farmers, company personnel and service providers.
  • Demonstrate ability to work efficiently when unsupervised.
  • Ability to apply a hands-on approach to the position.
  • Show a desire and an initiative to take ownership of the position.
  • Experience working and operating tractors and machinery.
  • Competent skills with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Flexibility to be on call and attend to situations after hours as required.
